CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Home field held no advantage as the Cardigan Clippers downed the Northside Brewers 5-4 in Morell and the Morell Chevies outgunned the Charlottetown Expos 6-1 in Charlottetown in Sunday’s Kings County Baseball League action.
On Friday, the Expos dropped a 5-0 decision to the Stratford Athletics.
Clippers 5, Brewers 4
Charles Maclellan pitched seven strong innings and went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double in leading Cardigan to the road win.
Tyson Blue went seven innings for the Brewers in the complete-game loss.
It was a see-saw battle with Cardigan scoring one run in the first and Northside responding with two in its half the inning.
The Clippers bounced back in the second scoring three times to take a 4-2 lead, but the Brewers responded with one in the second and one in the fourth to tie it 4-4.
After a scoreless fifth, the Clippers pushed one across in the sixth which was enough for the win.
Kevin Macleod was 3-for-4 for the Clippers, while Pierce Conohan and Morgan Mcaree each were 2-for-4.
Seth Nicholson (1-2), Jed MacEwan (1-2) and Nigel Fisher (1-4, double) led Northside’s attack.
Cardigan outhit Northside 12-7.
Chevies 6, Expos 1
Morell scored three runs in the third inning, extending its 1-0 lead, and cruised to the victory at Memorial Field.
Troy Coffin earned the win, scattering four hits, while Jeremy Koughan, with relief from Jordan Duffy, suffered the loss.
Carter McGrath and Stephen O'Shea led the way for Morell with two hits apiece.
Kris McGuirk had three of the four Expos hits.
Athletics 5, Expos 0
Winning pitcher Dan O’Shea threw a complete-game, five-hit shutout, wracking up 10 strikeouts, for the win.
Brett Cheverie went the distance in the loss.
Shawn MacDougall was 3-for-3 with two doubles and home run to lead the Athletics at the dish. Ryne MacIsaac (1-3), Randy Taylor (1-3) and Adam Smith (1-3) chipped in to the Athletics attack.
Josh Kelly and Jordan Duffy had two hits each for the Expos.
